ABOUT RICHARD CLEGG
Richard worked in the nonprofit sector for 43 years working in all-sized YMCAs in various program, leadership, and executive positions. For 20 years, Richard consulted all-sized YMCAs and nonprofit community-based organizations with operating revenues from $1M to $80M in the areas of strategy development, strategic planning, board development and governance, executive transition, and organizational capacity building. Richard retired in 2023 from the Y movement to continue his work as a consultant in the nonprofit sector. He currently serves as Senior Consultant with the DBD Group.
While working for the Y’s national resource office, Richard co-developed and executed a national strategy, Membership By Design, for the Y Movement’s more than 850 YMCA Associations increasing membership acquisition and retention nationwide. He created and equipped local Ys with several membership, strategic planning, board governance, and CEO and CVO executive transition resources and tools.
He served as a national Y trainer for more than 20 years in leadership, management, and program training courses. He is a certified Master Trainer for Managing Inclusion from Global Novations (now Korn Ferry), holds an Advanced Certificate of Nonprofit Board Consulting from BoardSource, and co-led the integration of Real-Time Strategic Planning with La Piana Consulting as a national Y strategy.
A sought-after platform speaker and workshop presenter. He has facilitated workshops, training, and retreats across the country with all sized Ys and nonprofits as well as in YMCAs in Singapore, Hong Kong, Japan, Brazil, and the Middle East.
Richard earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Toledo (OH) and a Master of Science degree in Organizational Development and Leadership from Springfield College (MA).
